Some example of digipaks similar to our song which is electronic pop, one from each genre as well as some of my favourite artists :
SAME GENRE- ELECTRONIC POP/DANCE/ ELECTRONIC ROCK
The album cover is very clean and her manner is very relaxed, this is also emphasised with the cup and straw as well. She also isn't looking at the camera which shows a less intense and more relaxed look and manner. The colours are quite washed out but still bright. There is not much going on in the cover and the text is very basic which correlates with the very simplistic photo which in total gives a relaxed vibe to the album cover.
The large bold artists name in the centre, highlights the importance of the artist on the album cover, with is very different from the very thing and smaller writing for the song/album name and the feature name. the bright green, blue and yellow contrast each other which makes the album cover stand out and glow.
This futuristic and unearthly technological object, looks like its out of this world as it is juxtaposed with the beautiful scenic background, correlating with the technological, digital and futuristic sound of music.
M.I.A's album is very wild, and has many very different bright colours going on making it stand out from the crowd, and representing the very mis-mashed possibly representing the very mis-matched songs on the album showing individuality. Also she is featured central on the album, as well as 4 times around with smaller polarized pictures, this shows her importance on the album along with the large M.I.A on the top of the album, it also looks like a kaleidoscope kind of affect on the cover. A lot of artists use their own image to show their importance on the album. The pixilated affect of the text shows a more digital and technological effect which could represent her songs and give a more fun effect.
Wilkinson's album is very simple however with a lot going on. Like many of his album covers it features a picture behind block text. The picture in the background is in black and white and the rest of the album cover is in white. The picture features hands in the air in a type of club or rave party scene which is known for their electronic and dance music with again is representative of him music. Also the name 'Lazers not included' give connotations of a club or rave party and also indicate that music is similar to being at a party or rave the only thing missing is the lazers. the album cover also features the record label RAM. The block texts and block lines and circles give more depth and allow us to see the picture behind more clearly.
Rudimentals album is called home and features what looks like a street and the side of a house or a shop with various drawings of a black community at a carnival, as there are trumpets bright clothing and they have smiles on their faces. This could indicate that where ever they are in London or the Caribbean they will always feel at home, or rather home is where the happiness of the community is. There are also subtle signs as there is a tall black street lamp, large typical 'BUS STOP' lines on the road, 3 pigeons, terrace houses and a skyline filled with large council flats, for some reason it gives me connotations of london, the signs are not detailed enough to indicate where it is however they are very broad and allow anyone to believe that they are mentioning their town/city/village and therefore 'home'. which is very clever. their name is clear on the album and the text is very simple , where as the text 'home' looks handwritten and therefore more homely and genuine. there is also 'the sun' shining in the background, giving a sense of hope and happiness. although quite simplistic it is very picturesque.
Disclosure's album cover is quite creepy to me as it is like their identities have been taken away as we cannot see their faces once the drawing outline is on, However I quite like it and think that it is very unique. The text is very simple however contrasted as the album name is in white and the artists name in black, this could echo the two young boys on the album looking very similar facially however their clothes an personalities are therefore different, maybe I'm looking too deep into it but I don't know.
I really like the the black and white with a hind or opaque brown! This would be something similar to what I would choose for my Digipak.
Like a lot of dance and electronic album covers, there are a lot of bright colours and glows around the text and object's. This could indicate a more futuristic and more technological look as it gives the illusion that there is some form of energy or electric glowing from the album, which ties in with the electronic sound of the album. Also there seems to be a theme of another world or an alien like object or planet, indicating that this futuristic and technological world or state is represented in the music. It also seems to be for most cases- Simplicity is the key.
INDIE/ALTERNATIVE
I like how Ed Sheeran has ginger hair which is a stand out point in his image and the fact that his album cover is orange, homes it all in and is really stand out on the shelves, the small plus a symbol instead of the name 'plus' also makes it really unique as well which I really like.
Sam Smith's is one of the most colour and seems to be one of the only one in the list, aside from the wombats and London grammar, who has his name and album name on the cover. I like the coloured paint on the album however it would not go with the mood of my music video and brand and therefore I cannot take inspiration although i love it.
This is the Arctic Monkey's album, very simple and draws similarities to their music video 'Do you wanna know'
Other than Ed Sheeran, London Grammar is the only one who features the artist themselves on the cover, However the image of them is slightly somewhat distorted and blurred. I love the font and the crossover of the 'Grammar' part and I like how they are all not properly looking at the camera.
The wombats intrigued me however I don't completely understand it but I love them and I love the album cover.
X for the band 'the xx' Extremely simplistic
In all of these indie/alternative are very very simple however have a very symbolic nature, Although simple all of them are powerful and I really like them.
HIP HOP/ RAP/ GRIME
I like Jay-z black and white image in the background of Greek statues. I sort of like the font with the line through the middle as the whole album gives an element of mysteriousness, however I don't understand why there is a line through his name.
Tine Tempah has also adopted the blank and white style and the line across, however it is over his eyes and in red which strips him away of his identity almost as they say the eyes are the most powerful things on the face and that the eyes are the key to the soul, and with his not there it, you lose something, but I do like the black and white and I like the idea of it, which i might be inspired by from my digipak.
This is very simplistic and the snake skin and gold, imply wealth and importance, however also slight tackiness, but also uniqueness
The only classical i have is Ludovici Eianudi's one. It shows a very peaceful background,
Kanye's album is very odd as it has progressed over time to just a blank CD in a clear case with just a blank red sticker. This could refernce to him thinking he is so important that he needs no publicity and fancy designs to sell his album 'Yezuss' a play on the words 'Jesus'. I don't fully understand it and I'm not a fan of Kanye West as a person AT ALL, but I applaud the creativity of the simplicity.
I love the blending in Devlin's album. I love the simplicity and the contrast of the red with the dull greyish blue in the background. I just love a lot about this.
The only classical i have is Ludovici Eianudi's one. It sohws a very peacful background,
One of the things I LOVE how his name is presented in the razor as plan B. I also like how it is only thing in colour,in red which brings attention to it as well as highlighting and symbolising that razors can cause blood and pain. I like the way the 'Ill' is set up like council flats and that the 'manors' looks like graffiti on the wall that Plan B is sitting on.
I have noticed that a lot of the rappers are portraying themselves in a powerful light, For instance Jay Z's Magna Carter, and Kanye's Yezuss. Black and white with contrast to red also seems to be a current trend in rap/grime albums such as ill manors and Tinie Tempahs
CLASSICAL
POP/ R N B
