Afterglow -Wilkinson

I just had to post this video because I thought it was so smart how it was done (although explicit) as I have NEVER in my life seen a video done in this way, and quite frankly I love it. Bit explicit in some parts but it makes the video even more unique ! Love It !

A Bit late....

Well it is a bit late but I found this really good website to help with ideas for music videos and how to construct music video's although I should have found this earlier its still really useful in terms of how music videos are shot and edited etc

It is called:

OH MY!

Now, imagine that I thought windows movie maker was hard at one point, imagine my shock when I open Final cut express, it is a whole different ball game ! SO to help prepare myself for the editing ahead, as it looks more professional and you can do more with final cut than imovie, I have found some useful videos to help me:

I can still barely understand the video's but I will get it at one point and it will be easier than windows media player or imovie!

Filming!

We shall be filming next tuesday which will be Tuesday 26th of November.

This will be some of the main shots from my dad's gym.

There are two locations needed for the shots and 3 scenes in the music video.

locations: The gym and a white room/ area

Scenes: Billy singing the song, On the way to the gym, The preparation for the fights and finally the big fight.

Complications:
As with every music video there will be complications, one main one is our actor because he has other priorities as well we need to make sure we communicate days with him in which we can definitely (his name is Richard) to be quite frank it only should take 2 days to film plus half a day for Billy's singing scene. Another complication as this is at a live Muay Thai boxing gym with people who pay money to train we have to film at the end of training practice in order to have the least amount of people possible but a time when the gym is still open.

These are minor complications and there is a meeting in the gym soon which means they keep it open for longer with no body training during the time of the meeting and that would be a perfect time to film. Also my dad can keep it open for a bit longer in order for us to film.

Getting props, costuming etc is easy, lighting may be a bit tricker but we can cross that bridge when we get to it. By the end of the weekend the story boarding MUST be done as it is vital to speed up the process and make sure the filming process is more structured than randomly pulled from the air, which can be done as well but we need to have a clear story board before we film.

So I will keep you updated on that :)

Rihanna- What Now... Illuminati ?

Now, there was a stage in my life (2010) where I did research about the Illuminati and I was genuinely TERRIFIED with the results I found, Especially with the fact I found that they 'apparently' track your IP address, find out where you live and kill you if they find you have Googled them. In hindsight, the dark room, the fact it was midnight and the point my bed is right next to the window in my room, most likely  contributed to the fear that night, because the next day I totally forgot about it. But the topic of the Illumanti and the Free Masons and New World order, is quite a scary and daunting conspiracy, and they apparently target media and in particular music artists, as music is a lot easier to stay in the mind than text.

You are probably wondering why I am writing of them and what this topic has to do with the music video, well, it will all be explained in the following paragraphs:

This is Rihanna's music video for What Now which has only recently come out and is a lot more appropriate than her last video (Pour it up)

Now I love this music video at the moment as it is just SO simple and I love how they sped up her dancing and then slow motioned it to get this really amazing effect.( from 0:49-0.56) I also love how its not In black and white but there is a high contrast of black and white with a grungy, whitewashed feel, with very specific lighting helping to contrast the black and the white. And I think our group could definitely recreate the speeding up and slow motion and to be honest the whole video as it is not that complicated it's mostly the editing techniques which makes it appear more complicated to film than it is.

On first watch I thought it was a very artist interpretation of someone who is going crazy over her feelings and the feeling of been trapped in an open space, and the white highlighted the blank thoughts she is feeling and the black accents were to highlight the darkness that was coming over her. When watching it for the second time, I thought she does look slightly possessed, maybe by her thoughts but when looking at the comments I got a COMPLETELY different viewpoints, A LOT of them banging on about the Illuminati. At the side a video popped up that I thought 'lets watch':

This lady goes into quite a lot of detail about the video and how it is part of the occult. I can see why people do believe in the Illuminati as all the signs in the video that she mention did have me thinking 'ooooh quite true' as I had never thought about it in that way.  But it led me to think:

Do directors of music video's go into THAT much detail in creating a music video, to control the mind
or
Do us as viewers, like we do in Literature with things such as poems, want to believe that they are so smart that they have thought of these things in so much detail, but really the meaning is very basic on the surface but we want to believe it has a much deeper meaning, for some unknown reason.

The second option is much easier to achieve as the audience do it without prompt and it leads me to think, our group does not need to have an intricate story line and go into that great detail about our music video, or that it won't look like a profession video because the audience will perceive it how they want and may go in a lot greater detail than we ever intended which is a reassuring thought. And our video can be very simply, Muay Thai boxing and a singer and let the viewers minds create what they want the meaning to be, which is what people do, and it does morph into ideas such as the Illumanti (which may be real but we don't know) and this is shown in the two videos, so we need to go as simple as possible to get the greatest impact.

Practice album Cover!

okay, so we were set a task to follow the Chief Examiner- Pete to create our own album covers using his steps, as I am a fool, I thought we just had to make an album cover on word or something from our imaginative creative minds, but I should of actually read the task properly,so I have ALSO done that one, So I may as well show it at the end of the post.

So this is Pete's task:

Make your own album cover

If you are making an album cover as part of an A level task, you need some practice. One of my favourite tasks, which proves that anyone can be creative, is this one, also known as the internet CD cover meme creator, to be found in various locations on the web. Here's what you do:

1. Get a band name:
Use the title of a randomly-generated Wikipedia article. You HAVE to use the title of the page you land upon!

2. Get an album title:
Use the last four or five words from the last quote on this page of random quotations

3. Get your image:
Use the random images  generator from Flickr's last seven days you HAVE to use the third image, whatever it is

4. Drop image and words into Photoshop:
Adjust your band name and album title by changing the font, colour and size and maybe putting a bit of layer effect on. Resize your image so that it is the right size for the front of an album. If you want, you can turn colour into black and white, but you can’t add anything else to the image!

5. Upload it to one of the random generated CD cover sites

So I am going to show you step by step my results:

1. Get a band name...

I got the Band name Zantop Air Transport, Apparently it is an airline company that was in america for 4 years in the 60's. Very random but has a snazziness to it.

2. Get an Album Title....

'Bear the best fruit'  a very odd album title name but there is something symbolic about it and philosophical about the phrase that makes you think deeply about it. I like it.

Not going to lie, this is actually a really fun task, I think I'm enjoying it too much!

3.Get your image...

Proof
Not happy with this, there was so much hope and promise for the album cover and then I get a zoomed in flower !!! I was excited that I was going to get like a street or landmark but I got a flower. Maybe I take the last 'this is actually really fun' comment back ! joking aside I wish it was more interesting however, this flower may be Extremely interesting to someone else. But actually taking a second look it is a beautiful flower and the colours are brilliant, so thanks Hugh for the picture !

4. Drop images onto Photoshop...

As I don't have Photoshop on my computer at home I used online picmonkey- Thanks Anna for the website!

Now I am not going to lie... I'm quite loving the CD album cover! Although nothing to do with our actual music video !! It actually looks good for a practise, I didn't edit the picture in any way because the filters didn't help the colours at all but instead made them look Horrible! So I just left it and added the text and cropped the photo! I really like the text font's, both of them, but especially the circular font, I think that looks really cool and I chose the colours to match the flower, of course, and therefore tie the whole thing together. And technically the flowers are the fruit of plant and the flower is beautiful so therefore they have born the best fruit!

5...

Now again like a fool, I thought we had to look for a random cd generator but its upload to one, to my Horror I click the first one and see the first random generated cd cover was a disgusting, huge tarantula! and seeing as I have a Major phobia of spiders, I nearly died of cardiac arrest when it popped up right on my screen:
This is absolutely DISGUSTING AND SICKENING!

But any ways... That was extremely fun, other than the last bit but I don't think we will be using it for our album cover, because it really does not fit in anyway!

One last thing... This is the album cover that I originally done:

I did it in black and white to tie in with our music video which may be in black and white because it looks a lot cleaner and the focus on the gloves in the middle tie in with the Muay Thai boxing theme that we are going for. Again as I don't have Photoshop I had to use word and Paint which was not to bad, but obviously Photoshop will give a more professional look. I do like my album cover because it is really simplistic which is similar to Swedish House Mafia's album covers which are really simple and the black and white theme is also similar to their album covers:

What I really like about their album covers is that they always have a group of three things on there mainly three circles which represent the three members of the band !

Footage!

We finally started filming, but only practise footage because we didn't like the quality of our Panasonic camera's, Also we decided that it doesn't look too much like a music video... The shots on its own. So we have decided to add a male lip sync to pull the piece all together and look more like a realistic music video. We also like the thought of the music video being in black and white also, just because it look cleaner and slicker. For the male Lip sync we may choose Alicia's twin brother Billy or one of Hannah's friends. We will record them both and see which one we like best. So far it is going okay and hopefully we can film soon. One obstacle we are facing is that the rope's in the ring of my dad's gym are being replaced and the person who owns the building is messing about with when they are getting changed, so we just have to wait till then or it is going to be mismatched, with the old rope and the new rope. We have also found our main guy's from the gym to fight- Richard and Kamil. As we think they look old enough and have the skills and physique to pull off the role we are going for. I have asked for their consent and they have agreed, however I will get them to formally sign something and take a picture and post it on the blog, so that we can 100% use them without fail. So the next video we will post will either be the practise footage or a bit of our lip sync video.

Because it is not letting me post a comment (and I have tried several times) I have thought just to do a post on it, our group has flip 4.

Inspiration!

Here are some video's that are inspiring our music video, the first one from a Thai advert, showing the famous Thai Boxer- Buakaw, who can cut a tree down with his Muay Thai kicks. This video is similar to the idea that Leanne was mentioning in the vlog, and I think it will be a really good idea.
The second video is from Maroon 5's music video - One More Night, which features main singer Adam Levine participating in a boxing match. The third is a promo video for a fighter.

All the video's use slow motion and brilliant angles, which we would like to replicate in our music video.

Update!

Although I look like a troll on this vlog, here it is, discussing the final music video idea !

EUAN BAKER!!!

WELL... I love his music video! So simple but beautiful, I think I have already posted it in a previous post, however, after sieving through more video's to my luck (and happiness) I found he has also made an extended version !!

And the description he goes into more detail about what is being portrayed in the music video!! The start speaking reminds me a bit of like one of the monologues at the start of Lana Del Ray or Taylor Swift (I knew you were trouble) video's! I have looked at Baker's other video's on his You tube Channel and his professionalism definitely is a theme which runs through his work and the elegance to his shots really shows! If our music video needs to be like any ones, I hope ours looks at clean and professional as his does!!

... You Go Euan Baker !

Miley vs. Rihanna !

Well... What can I say?! Both of them are bad but of course Rihanna is worse, no argument about it, However, Rihanna has been know as trouble for years since her 'Good girl gone Bad'-2007- phase and transformation, so it's been years of her outlandish behaviour, minimal clothing and provocative video's, so 'Pour it up' is no surprise to me at all. Rihanna has always been know to grind and jirate on things and people for years... Look at her 'rude boy' video or her 'You da One' video, you know it's not that much of a shock that she's come out with this video to be quite fair. She walks around the place half naked in the first place, doing god knows what so not many were shocked by Rihannas video, if you weren't shocked at the song 'S&M' song and video, I don't see much reason to be shocked at this one. Apparently the song 'We can't stop' was originally meant for Rihanna any ways, Again no surprise there! Rihanna has also NEVER appealed to the young teen market e.g 11-15 like Miley has, and Rihanna genre is very sexualised in the first place, not saying that I think its acceptable but just listen to Kelly Rowlands song-'Kisses down Low' or Ciara's 'Body Party'. The music video's however all suit the lyrics of the song as well as the genre, she makes money to entertain not influence.

In miley's case she has been seen as 'the good girl' for years, then one day she cuts her hair and that's it, twerking, naked music video, licking hammers and the best part getting Terry Richardson to direct it as well as having a provocative photoshoot with him! He isn't exactly known as a trustworthy person around young girls. Also there is an age difference between Miley (20) and Rihanna (25) Miley isn't even allowed to legally drink in America yet and Hannah Montana only finished 2 years ago. I feel like Miley is trying to hard to just put on a show to rebel against her parents, Disney and her ex-fiancé where as Rihanna is has built up her brand slowly to be outrageous and rude, replying rudely to rude comments on twitter and Instagram and not afraid to voice her opinions because its just how Rihanna has marketed herself, where as Miley is trying to prove a point that's she's not innocent and young any more. Lady Gaga is just as outrageous as Miss Cyrus but she has a true artist flare about her and can always clearly justify why she does the things she does unlike Miley. Again I seem like I'm on the 'I can't stand Miley' campaign but I do really like her songs it's her attitude and her music videos.

Rihannas genres are R&B,Pop, Reggae, Hip Hop and Dance, she notes Madonna, Bob Marley, Whitney Huston and Janet Jackson as influences.
Mileys genres focus on mainly, Pop, Country and dance however her recent genre change is now a mix of all with addition to R&B and Hip Hop, which is quite a change. Her influences started off as Avril Lavigne and Hilary Duff (A fellow Disney star), Kelly Clarkson, Britany Spears and Dolly Parton, However, It has all changed to French Montanna, Juicy J, Wiz Khalifa and Adele.
Now I'm not at all justifying Rihanna's actions as acceptable and saying Miley's is not, I'm personally stating that Rihanna's actions in her new video are all common and not out of nature of Rihanna, where as Miley's are slightly out of character especially starting after her parents got a divorce and her relationship was on the rocks. I think both videos are inappropriate but the standards of vulgarity have gone down and people are now aloud to do what they want and show what they want, when they want, and that's just our society today unfortunately.
Now some would argue, this is all because of men views and they are all just as bad as each other because of men causing them to be portrayed as sexual objects in the world of media, However, none of these women were forced to do these things in the videos, none has been forced to dress provocatively, dance provocatively or be outrageous and controversial they have made the choice to, and therefore its just human behaviours in the wrong NOT a gender.

I really like Miley's songs and I'm more disappointed that her video couldn't be more meaningful for such a powerful song. Rihanna's song is about strippers, so no surprise the video features pole dancers, which are usually associated with stripping although times have changed and is no also a good exercise workout. But Hannah Montana always had a good moral at the end of her episode and so did everyone of miley's song's before this year, accompanied by a suited video. I feel disappointed that she needed to show off her body and be looked upon as a sexual object, and change so drastically to be noticed or recognised, I see it as a cry for help to be honest. I say keep making brilliant songs but please higher your standards, your a pretty girl who could do so much more with your videos. Words to Rihanna, don't change, cause I know you don't care for people's opinions at all and won't change. I expect this degrading behaviour from Rihanna but not Miley, she is better than that.

Word of advice for future Musicians, Music video directors, A2 Media Students and My group, Let's not sexualise anyone in any way to gain popularity, money or prove a point ! This will be the last post I do on Miley Cyrus because I have said all that I needed to say.

Here are both videos WARNING: Quite explicit for both. and here are some comments from the pour it up video.

Well Miley no longer lets people Embed the video so here is the link instead:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=My2FRPA3Gf8&feature=share&list=RD02ehcVomMexkY

Beautiful song, pretty girl not so good video and personally it would have been A LOT more powerful with just the close-up shot of her for the whole song, Sinead O'Conner did it and it looked brill !

Okay well Rihanna also doesn't let people embed the video (maybe its stupid VEVO !!!!) so again here is the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehcVomMexkY&feature=share&list=RD02ehcVomMexkY

Very tacky, very sexual, Not a good message at all and I don't condone the video, but its Rihanna being Rihanna and the song goes with the lyrics not going to lie.

Even though I have just watched Miley's new video, with Wiz Khalifa, juicy J etc. I am going to lay this debate to rest. And the main thing is we are not going to be using any tips at all from Rihanna or Miley in our music video which we will be updating you on soon.

Shots!

There have been some shots that I have seen and loved and thought would be perfect for our film as well as editing technique. One of which is called 'stuck in motion' (click on this link to go to a website explaining how to create it) which I really like because it is as if the people are somehow frozen in time. I also found this video that has really slow and fast motion shots...

Ewelina Lisowska - Aero-Plan II trailer - dir cut from Dariusz Szermanowicz on Vimeo.

I also found this website that is really good on explaining how to get the best slow motion based on objects, which I find really useful, as we wanted to incorporate a lot of slow motion to our music video.

http://gizmodo.com/5164508/tips-for-shooting-the-best-slow+motion-video

Although, this is not too relevant, I also found this sad but cute video of these Bunny's (not real), and as Leanne and Hannah have Rabbits and Love them, this video is for them to be honest. However, in a way it is an example of an obscure music video using Stop motion!

Out Of A Forest from Tobias Gundorff Boesen on Vimeo.

Permission!

This is the E-mail we sent to Polydor records asking if we were allowed to use the Swedish House Mafia song, We were going to send it directly to Swedish house Mafia themselves, but unfortunately they have split up :( However we have informed them that it solely for educational purposes and we will not be selling the music video afterwards.

Our mood board !

This tries to convey our new idea !

Lyrics - Swedish House Mafia!

We chose this song because we felt it related more to our storyline than the others did, regardless it being a male singer.

                                                                 "Save The World"
                                                                  (feat. John Martin)

Into the streets
We’re coming down
We never sleep
Never get tired
Through urban fields
And suburban lights

Turn the crowd up now
We’ll never back down
Shoot down the skyline
Watch it on primetime
Turn up the love now
Listen up now, turn up the love

Who’s gonna save the world tonight?
Who’s gonna bring it back to life?
We’re gonna make it, you and I
We’re gonna save the world tonight

It’s far from home,
It’s for the better
What we dream, it’s all that matters
We’re on our way, united

Turn the crowd up now
We’ll never back down
Shoot down the skyline
Watch it on primetime
Turn up the love now
Listen up now, turn up the love

Who’s gonna save the world tonight,
Who’s gonna bring it back to life
We’re gonna make it, you and I,
We’re gonna save the world tonight.

Who’s gonna save
Who’s gonna bring
We’re gonna make it, you and I,
Who’s gonna save
Who’s gonna bring
We’re gonna save the world tonight.

A change! Song ideas and Song choice!

Well no longer like our old idea as it doesn't give us the inspiration that we need for making a music video, so we have decided to change our idea, we first thought of making a parody video, however we no longer like that idea and it has now changed, however first we must choose a good song that suits the video.

In this prezi there are some song ideas I liked and the song we chose in the end... it might be a surprise to you!

Star Image Project!

Here is my star project, I have done mine on Ellie Goulding as she is featured in the same genre as Florence and the Machine.

Potentials!

Here were the three potential songs we were going use for the Video.
So here is the line-up...
Heavy Cross by Gossip

For...

  • Nice beat
  • Quite quirky
  • Have at least one decent idea already for it

Against...

  • Gets boring after more than 5 plays
  • Very long, very repetitive
  •  No good ideas to think of it.

Idea... Boy and girl meet each other and he falls in love and follows her.

Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Rey

For...

  • Can do lots with it
  • Very versatile
  • Not too long
  • Can be creative with shots and edits
Against...

  • Very generic
  • Can't think of any ideas for it at this moment
  • Quite a sad song (lyrics)

Idea.... friends having fun?

Shake it Out by Florence and the Machine

For...

  • Powerful build up
  • Many ideas can be conjured
  • Many good editing and shot ideas
Against...

  • Very long song
  • Haven't got a completely solid idea
Idea...Fairy/Folk tale, for instance little red riding hood.

Reasons for Shake it out...

A much more interesting song than the other choices of songs. Its very powerful and has a high climax to the song. As the tempo of the song changes throughout, our group can incorporate many types of editing techniques such as slow motion, hyper speed, flicking between shots etc. which would make the video really interesting and contrasting.

My initial concept ideas for the video:

Locations: Possibly Woods or City.

Themes: Fairy Tale/ Folk Tale, Little red riding hood?

Shot Types: High angle shots, Wide shots, Long shots, Close-ups, Extreme close-ups, 360 shot.

Angle: A storyline, possibly links to lyrics.

Lighting: Colour but quite dull though, cold hues colours, rather than warm hues.

THE LYRICS (ANNOTATIONS ON ROCK GENIUS LINK HERE)
"Shake It Out"
Regrets collect like old friends
Here to relive your darkest moments
I can see no way, I can see no way
And all of the ghouls come out to play

And every demon wants his pound of flesh
But I like to keep some things to myself
I like to keep my issues drawn
It's always darkest before the dawn

And I've been a fool and I've been blind
I can never leave the past behind
I can see no way, I can see no way
I'm always dragging that horse around

Our love is pastured, such a mournful sound
Tonight I'm gonna bury that horse in the ground
So I like to keep my issues drawn
But it's always darkest before the dawn

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh whoa

And I am done with my graceless heart
So tonight I'm gonna cut it out and then restart
'Cause I like to keep my issues drawn
It's always darkest before the dawn

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh whoa

And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
And given half the chance would I take any of it back
It's a fine romance but it's left me so undone
It's always darkest before the dawn

Oh whoa, oh whoa...

And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't
So here's to drinks in the dark at the end of my road
And I'm ready to suffer and I'm ready to hope
It's a shot in the dark aimed right at my throat
'Cause looking for heaven, found the devil in me
Looking for heaven, found the devil in me
Well what the hell I'm gonna let it happen to me, yeah

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh whoa

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh whoa
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh whoa

The genre that we have chosen is indie rock/pop because its a genre that originated in the UK and the USA IN 1980s and is an extremely diverse genre, with sub-genres, and therefore many ideas can stem from it, also everyone in our group like this genre and therefore agreement is in place. Also, you can do so much from this genre, if we used just rock, R&B, Country or Pop for instance, we would limit our ideas to adhere to the forms and conventions of the genre. Where as indie rock/pop lets you be more creative and free with your ideas.

Florence and the Machine has been signed to Moshi Moshi, iAMSOUND, Island, Universal Republic and Republic record labels.

Moshi Moshi are a small London based label (independent) founded in 1998. The name was named after the Japanese phrase when answering the telephone which means 'hello'. It has signed artists such as Bloc party, Hotel Club De Paris, Florence and the machine, Disclosure and Kate Nash,

Under Universal, in the us, Island became a mostly Pop/rock label, as their urban artists moved to Def Jam or Def Soul, a new Def jam imprint focusing on R&B. Island also set up its own Island Teens label, which had a massive success with signing Justin Bieber.

The label mainly focuses on mainstream and urban music from artists such as Kelly Rowland, Jessie J, Nelly, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, the late Amy Winehouse, The Weeknd etc as well as successful country artists such as Taylor Swift and Florida Georgia Line.

Florence and the Machine's last album is called 'Ceremonials'

Fairy Tales (the making of the music videos) !

This is the behind the scenes videos for some music video's that contain a fairy tale/folk tale element to them. As well as some videos with the theme.

Warning: The Katy Perry video is 20 mins long

AlunaGeorge's video is very interesting! I actually quite love the video and Alunageorge!

Alice and wonderland theme from Gwen Stefani

The Jessie J video - Nobody's Perfect with and Alice and Wonderland theme!

The wonderful spice girls as fairies!

For Alice in wonderland film!

Not the nicest sounding of songs but again- Alice themed !

Kelly Clarkson again with a fairy tail theme!

AND .... One of my favourites!!!!

I do really like Natalia Kills and her music videos very creative!

Florence and the machine!

We have changed our song and our idea!! I know its sounds crazy but we really didn't like the other ideas, they seemed to cheesy and uninteresting and I felt that the song was slightly boring, once listened to quite a lot. We had an idea where a boy was obsessed and followed a girl to her work place and then found out she had a boyfriend/girlfriend and then dropped one of his belongings and then he got followed by a crazy stalker also, However we really, really did NOT not like the idea. So we have changed to as I mentioned before, Folk tale/Fairy Tale.

Here is our new song, although long, I think its a much more powerful and has more of and impact.

The name Florence and the Machine is attributed to Florence Welch's teenage collaboration with Isabelle "machine" Summers. Welsh and Summers preformed originally as Florence Robert/Isa Machine =, however this was shortened to Florence and the Machine as they felt it was too cumbersome.

As well as Summers (Keyboards and backing vocals), the current band members include musicians Robert Ackyroys (guitar and backing vocals), Chris Hayden (drums, precussion and backing vocals), Mark Saunders (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Tom Monger (harp).

According to Welch, "The name Florence and the Machine started off as a private joke that got out of hand..."
In February 2011, Florence and the Machine were nominated for Best New Artist in the 53rd Grammy Awards.
Florence Welsh had been compared to other female singers such as Kate Bush, Siouxsie sioux, PJ Harvey and Björk. During an interview, Welch cited Grace Slick as her influence and "hero". Florence and the Machine's style has been described as "dark, robust and romantic". Their music is a mix of "classical soul and midnight-on-the-moors English art rock" Welch stated that her lyrics related to Renaissance artists "We're dealing with all of the same things they did- love and death, time and pain, heaven and hell."
The american recording artist Beyoncé Knowles cited Florence and the Machine as an influence for her 2011 album 4.

Video idea!

Although I have already posted several ideas, our groups hasn't found one we really like and want to back all the way, so I decided to research some other schools music video's to get some inspiration.

I found the typical party one, however, if we take out the silly and pointless Harlem shake at the end, the video actually looks really good, in terms of shots and as a whole, simple but effective, in a way and goes with the genre of music:

So looking around, I came to a professional music video's one in particular that caught my eye was 'La la la' by Naughty Boy ft Sam Smith.

I was really interested but confused about the music video so I researched it, It gave connotations of the Wizard of OZ, I found on a blog by a boy called Kieran Hill, Information about the music video. It is a mix of an old Bolivian folk tale about a boy who is deaf however can hear the pain of people suffering and goes to help the, mixed with the Wizard of Oz to create the music video all the details are in his blog that I have linked in his name above. After finding this I thought, why don't our group do something like that as we were struggling with ideas. So I have been looking for some old folk tales/ Nursery Rhymes that we could possibly do a modernised not so obvious version of. So these are the ones I have found that we could possibly do:

  • The Snow Queen
  • Rapunzel
  • Thumbelina
  • The little red hen
  • Little red riding hood
  • Jack and Jill
  • The queen of hearts
  • Rumplestilzkin
  • WitchStep-daughter
  • The Three Little Pigs

If my group likes the Ideas we can develop the storyline to incorporate it into a modern day version that may almost be unrecognisable unless told.

From Research quite a lot of music videos like using Fairy Tales as a storyline, as discussed on this website Music videos that use fairy tales.  from Katy Perry's 'Wide Awake', AlunaGeorge also features fairy tales as well as Nicki Minaj's 'Va Va VOOM':
